Lonavala and Khandala Hill Stations

Lonavala & Khandala are located in between two major cities of Maharashtra Mumbai & Pune. These are the convenient weekend spot for crowd seeking people in these cities. Lonavala & Khandala hill stations are just 5 kilometres away from each other & locate in the western ghat like the twins. These hill stations are in beside of the Pune-Mumbai express way since these carries high traffic. Lonavala & Khandala hill stations were discovered in the year 1871 by Sir Elphinstone which was the governor of the Bombay Prisidancy.
Lonavala is a charming hill station located on the slop of Sahyadri at the height of 625 mts above from the sea level. It attracts large number of tourist in monsoon because the beauty of Lonavala during the monsoon reaches at its peak. Approximately this hill station spread over the area of 38 square kilometres.
Khandala is located at the end of the Bor Ghat. Khandala is the common area for hiking, due to the ease of accessibility from nearby cities. After the first monsoon shower Khandala reach at its best. Also it is good looking during November & December. Nowadays people are interested to making properties at Lonavala due to the great climate, pleasant looking nature & good transport.

Tourist Attraction:
Duke’s Nose: This point is clearly seen from highway while driving towards Mumbai & it is 12 km away from Lonavala.
Tiger’s Leap: This point is also known as the Tigers point. This is the cliff top with sheer drop of 650 m giving a wide look. There is the small waterfall around the Tigers point which is active only during the monsoon.
Lohgad: This fort is around 11 km from the Malavali station this was once the formidable battle station of Shivaji Maharaja.
Karla & Bhaja Caves: These are the historical rock cut caves located around 16 km from Khandala. Karla caves are classical Buddhist caves & Bhaja caves are similar to it but are in smaller scale.


How to Reach:
By Air:  Pune (66 km) airport is the nearest airport from these hill stations.

By Train: Lonavala itself is the suitable railway station.


By Road: As we above mentioned these hill stations are in beside of the Pune-Mumbai express way. Therefore there is regular bus service from Pune & Mumbai (104 km from Lonavala).
