Verul Caves (Ellora Caves) : Place of Mutual Tolerance

Verul is the small village in Marathwada region of Maharashtra and 30 km in North-West of Aurangabad. Verul caves is commonly known as Ellora Caves.  It is an UNESCO World Heritage Site and forms one of major tourist attraction and it represents cogitation of Indian rock-cut architecture. 
At Verul there are about 34 caves in which 12 are Buddhist, 17 are Hindus and 5 are represent Jain. These caves are carved during 5th to 10th Century and shows the mutual tolerance between Buddhist, Hindu and Jain Religions. Verul caves spread over the 2 km area of the mountain range Satmal. 

Note: You can visit these caves during June to February of the year. During March to May the temperature of this area reach about 45°C. Verul is full of joy during Monsoon.

The Shiva Temple, GrishneshwarIt is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga sanctuary mentioned in Shiva Purana, but it is said that the Grishneshwar is the 12th Jyotirlinga on the earth. It is just 11 km from Ellora Caves.
Devagiri/Daultabad fort: This fort is one of the best preserved forts. The fort is situated on the 190 meter high isolated cone shaped hill which rising suddenly. It is about 15 km from Ellora Caves
Ajanta Caves: There are about 800 Buddhist caves spread across Maharashtra, out of these 29 are at world heritage site Ajenta. All these caves are spread near the Waghura River. These caves are about 110 km from Ellora Caves.

How to reach to Verul:

By Air: The nearest airport is Aurangabad which has daily flights to major Indian cities.
By Rail: Aurangabad railway station is well connected to most cities.The Aurangabad Jan Shatabdi Express is a daily fast train to Mumbai.
By Road: Ellora is about 30 km from Aurangabad. Buses, rickshaws and taxis ply regularly between the two.
